The Business Issue

Serving 40 million customers across a multilingual market, Bank Central Asia (BCA) needed to move faster from campaign idea to live, personalized engagement, without sacrificing the governance and control a regulated bank requires. Two obstacles stood out. First, translating ideas into approved content was slow: stakeholders who manage customer communications formed a review bottleneck that put delivery SLAs at risk. Second, the bank operates in three languages within its mobile banking app (Indonesian, English, and Mandarin), making consistency across every customer message a persistent challenge.

The Solution

Fast ideation with Blueprint: BCA adopted Customer Engagement Blueprint primarily as an ideation engine, using it to generate and shape engagement ideas quickly before taking selected cases into production. The team valued not only the speed but the breadth of ideas: because Blueprint draws on patterns from organizations worldwide, it became a way to learn how other banks approach engagement and translate those lessons into BCA's own application.

Building consistency across three languages: Rather than treating localization as a final step, BCA uses Blueprint to design for consistency from the start, ensuring the same meaning and context carry across Indonesian, English, and Mandarin. The goal is to get language right at the earliest stage, so consistency is preserved by the time content reaches the mobile banking app.

Reusable, overlay-based content: To break the content-approval bottleneck, BCA moved toward reusable, overlay-based content. Previously approved material no longer needs to be re-reviewed, so stakeholders focus only on the new changes introduced in a message. This targeted review is central to the bank's plan for scaling both Blueprint and CDH.

Governance and deployment control: Because BCA runs CDH on-premise, Blueprint content is not imported directly into the production system; Blueprint sits upstream as the ideation layer. The team's priority is turning ideation into governance, defining the assumptions, constraints, and full process so promising ideas become repeatable production practice rather than one-off pilots. Deployment control is treated as critical: once a message is sent, it cannot be recalled, so the emphasis is on strong controls before anything reaches the customer.

The Results

Multiple Blueprint-generated actions have reached production with strong outcomes. The clearest example: a 15–20% improvement on the financial-education website content BCA delivers to customers, built from ideas generated in Blueprint. Alongside this, the bank has scaled to roughly 400 actions and around 400 million customer interactions this year, with faster idea-to-creation cycles freeing the team to focus on the changes that matter.

Key Takeaways for other organizations

  • Use Blueprint to accelerate ideation, then invest early in the governance path that carries ideas into production.
  • Design for localization from the first stage, not the last, to keep meaning consistent across every language you serve.
  • Reusable, overlay-based content removes approval bottlenecks by limiting review to only what has changed.
  • In regulated, customer-facing environments, control before send matters more than speed after send.

HOW THEY GOT HERE

“Our mobile banking app runs in three languages: Indonesian, English, and Mandarin. We use Blueprint to build that consistency from the first stage, so that when we deploy, we already have the same meaning and context across every language."
