Episode 1: Equalizing the power of digital information featuring Fay Arjomandi

Fay Arjomandi (Founder & CEO, mimik) and Jo Richardson (Director, Corporate Communications, Pega) talked about Fay’s work at mimik technology inc. and its focus on enabling users (data producers) to maintain control over their own data rather than having third-party organizations monetize it however they want.

“The core part of mimik technology is to enable solutions that are getting developed by giving data control back to the data producers. That is one of the things that’s embedded in everything we do.”

Fay’s work with mimik runs for users and belongs to users. User data is kept locally and this solution is also eco-friendly because the mimic hybrid edge cloud essentially piggybacks on power already used by your computer, phone, and other smart technologies in your home. This lessens the burden for power usage at a random server farm somewhere far away.

Episode 5: The far-reaching significance of distributed cloud computing featuring Malini Bhandaru and Joe Weinman

In this episode, Jo Richardson (Director, Corporate Communications, Pega) spoke with Malini Bhandaru (Sr. Principal Engineer, Cloud Native Architect, Intel) and Joe Weinman (Keynote Speaker, Author, Consultant) about the power of cloud computing and how it can be made more accessible and energy efficient.

Malini talked about the value of sharing resources in order to get a better return on investment. This network of sharing is what creates the cloud. Malini focused on virtualizing the server space in a previous role working at VMWare, which improved efficiency and enabled users to customize their own server space.

“So, we’re becoming a digital planet. More and more of our lives are moving into the digital space.”

Joe discussed the importance of providing compute power as a service and making it as accessible as possible around the world. He also shared insight into how cloud companies are working together to maximize their efficiencies as a result of sharing compute power amongst each other.

“…large cloud providers and software companies are making an extremely conscious effort to be net zero. They’re using renewable energy where possible. […] For example, say in Scandinavia, where any waste heat from the facility is used to heat the village.”
