The history of the Schwarze Kameel dates back to 1618. This era was strongly influenced by the so-called 'fraternal quarrel' between the Habsburg brothers Matthias and Rudolf as well as the outbreak of the Thirty Years´ War in Central Europe. During these times, Johann Baptist Cameel opened up a Delicatessen and Wine Shop in the Bognergasse soon to become very famous.
