Siemens GBS: Next Gen platform raises the bar

  • Needed to meet the needs of customers expecting faster turnaround times
  • Developed an automation platform in collaboration with Pega
  • Delivered improved rates of automation, cycle times, and execution quality

“With our Next Gen P2P automation platform powered by Pega's low-code technology, we are delivering new levels in automation rates, cycle times, and execution quality, and are setting new standards for our customer experience."

The Business Issue

Siemens is a technology and manufacturing company focused on industry, infrastructure, transport, and healthcare. The organization’s Global Business Services (GBS) team is constantly looking for opportunities to improve operations for their customers. Their customers had ambitions to create increasingly faster turnaround times in processing of business transactions, higher automation rates, and lower cost of services.

The company set its focus on developing an end-to-end purchase-to-pay process as a collaborative workflow – using digital technologies on a flexible IT architecture with real-time enterprise resource planning (ERP) integration.

The Solution

To meet the expectations of customers in terms of efficiency, cost, and quality of services, Siemens GBS developed its own automation platform, Next Generation Purchase to Pay (Next Gen P2P) in collaboration with Pega and KPMG. Siemens GBS chose Pega because of the platform’s modular and customized cloud solutions that are easy to integrate and highly scalable for internal and external customers.

Next Gen P2P fully maps the purchase-to-pay process via Pega’s automation technology, including invoice processing and point of sale (POS). Siemens GBS’s customers can now use Next Gen P2P and have all relevant business rules, legal checks, and standard forms created and maintained in the platform – ultimately, achieving their goals.

The Results

With Pega’s BPM technology, Siemens GBS was able to realize the following results:

  • 20% increase in automation rate of third-party invoices
  • 25% reduction in turnaround time for third-party invoices
  • 85% decrease in rework rate for payment requests
