Low-code projects rapidly expanded across the enterprise
“Pega App Factory is a game changer for us. It has triggered interest among many business teams, and they come forward with ideas that they want to implement using low/no code.”
The Business Issue
Ford Motor Company’s Pega Center of Excellence (COE) consists of a pool of Pega subject matter experts who support multiple Pega capabilities, like robotic process automation, digital process automation, chat bot, and low code. The COE oversees the assessment of use cases, the development and adoption of best practices, and the development of reusable components.
Ford’s Pega COE also provides training and drives adoption of the technology with proof of concepts that are executed upon before making them available to the wider company.
Like many organizations of its size, Ford faced a growing backlog of application development needs from the business team. IT leaders saw an opportunity in the form of citizen development and embracing a low-code environment – all to provide relief for the growing backlog.
The Solution
Ford began its low-code journey by creating an environment for citizen developers that includes a streamlined onboarding and offboarding process for them to develop and apply code. Citizen developers are empowered with minimal administration. The COE also creates templates and reusable components to help accelerate the overall development process.
The low-code service at Ford is made available to citizen developers in the form of Pega App Factory™. The App Factory acts as a single umbrella to manage low-code application development across the enterprise.
The Results
After making the decision to embrace a low-code concept, the COE trialed a few pilot projects before expanding to the whole enterprise. The team was able to successfully complete four pilot projects across multiple departments and showcase their learnings to a larger audience in various forums.
One crucial factor in Ford's success was from following Pega App Factory best practices. This allowed them to accommodate more project requests from more business teams.
Six months after initiating citizen development, Ford began seeing great success with low code adoption across five business skill teams with no or minimal dependency on IT. Ford is now focused on further expansion across other regions and business teams.
