My Recent Trip to India

I recently returned from a trip to India to participate in the opening ceremony for Pega’s new Bangalore office, as well as spend some time with our team in Hyderabad.  Our India team supports Pega’s global engineering, R&D, industry frameworks, and customer support organizations.  Pega India has quickly become a significant operation for us.

While in India, I participated in a simultaneous chess match against 15 children from the Cyber Chess Academy in Hyderabad to help create awareness and appreciation for the sport and the values that it can instill.  We also donated laptops to the academy to help them continue the work that they are doing to promote chess amongst local children.   I was able to share with the group how chess has enriched my life, both as a player, as well as in business.  It was a tremendously rewarding experience, and I would like to thank the Pega India team and the Cyber Chess Academy for organizing the event.

I spent some time with the Pega India management team discussing our journey of rapid growth and our plans for the future.  I also toured the beautiful, expanded space that we now have in Hyderabad – with capacity for over 500 people – already at 80% occupancy, then participated in a product launch event for India and Amsterdam, before meeting with some of our key alliance partners.

The Team at Pega’s Hyderabad Office

Prior to traveling to Bangalore, I spent some time with the teams in Hyderabad, doing deep-dives and demos. I was impressed with the depth, breadth, and skill that all of the staff exhibited. We have assembled a very strong team that will be able to push forward our product and increase our market leadership.

Even though I was there during the Independence Day Holiday, a number of staff wanted to come to work anyway to show me the technology innovations they have been developing. I got to see some very exciting – and very complete – working prototypes of new technology that can be utilized in our product. We awarded prizes to the best three innovation ideas.

Towards the end of the week, we officially opened our new facility in Bangalore – which already houses 120 people, with space for 300 total – including a new Enterprise Business Systems (EBS) team who have begun the journey of transforming our internal applications. The day was marked with a flash-mob by the staff, a ribbon-cutting & candle-lighting ceremony, interviews with print and broadcast media, and an evening event at which the staff performed singing, dancing, and a fashion show of traditional Indian dress from across the regions. Our teams have many diverse talents, and know how to play hard as well as work hard.

While in Bangalore, I also enjoyed a series of deep-dive sessions with the Bangalore teams then headed off to tour a nearby customer facility. It was a very worthwhile and rewarding experience, and I would like to thank the entire Pega India team for a fabulous week. I am looking forward to returning more frequently to what has become the fulcrum of our product leadership campaign. Complementing our growing global footprint with this team has been terrific -- the intellect, energy and excitement are downright invigorating. It's not just a marketing slogan -- India truly is incredible!
