Pegasystems to Spotlight Case Management with IBM at Gartner Application Integration Summit

CAMBRIDGE, Mass, Nov. 15, 2004 — Pegasystems Inc. (NASDAQ: PEGA) will showcase its comprehensive work with IBM on their Business Performance Management (BPM) initiative when it previews smart case management on IBM platforms at the Gartner Application Integration and Web Services Summit today. The Gartner summit runs from November 15–17 at the Gaylord Palms Resort and Convention Center in Orlando, Florida.

As an IBM strategic alliance partner, Pegasystems has integrated its PegaRULES Process Commander V4 platform and smart case management — the streamlined, automated handling of customer issues such as opening an account, processing exceptions and automating order-to-cash processes — with the IBM WebSphere(a) middleware stack, as well as with IBM Workplace(a), IBM DB2 Content Manager(a), DB2 Universal Database(a), the eServer zSeries, pSeries and xSeries servers running Linux, WebSphere Portal(a) and Tivoli(a) application management suite. For the first time, Pegasystems will preview at the Gartner summit its automated order-to-cash invoicing application integrated into IBM's BPM.

IBM's BPM combines business process management, business intelligence, IT services management, and collaboration and visualization tools to align a customer's core assets - people, information, technology and processes. This enables an organization to create a single, integrated view, with real-time intelligence, of both its business measurements and IT system performance. In turn, this allows them to obtain business information faster, respond more quickly to market trends and competitive threats, and improve operational efficiencies and business results — all attributes of an on demand enterprise.

"Pegasystems' smart case management enables business users to manage process change in real-time, using the power of business rules to automate business 'cases' that need quick and accurate resolution," said Samir Gulati, vice president of Marketing & Alliances for Pegasystems. "Smart case management closes what we call 'the execution gap' — the disparity between management decisions and actual business processes, which can hinder an organization's speed, consistency and accuracy," he explained. "It allows business changes to be implemented on demand through change-aware technology that captures decisions and makes the system aware of them immediately; that applies decisions and practices in the correct situation through situational rule selection; and that enables business policies to be integrated into operational systems. This lets businesses build for change, making them more flexible, more agile and more competitive."

"Combining Pegasystems' smart case management with our Business Performance Management initiative gives organizations the tools to model, execute and monitor complex processes," said Beth Smith, vice president of IBM's business performance management group. "The combination gives organizations the tools to 'operationalize' their business strategies with fast, accurate business processes."
