Pegasystems Partners with Business Rule Solutions

Partnership to Improve Awareness and Benefits of Business Rule Methodology and Streamline Business Process Management System Design

Pegasystems Inc. (NASDAQ: PEGA), a leader in rules-driven business process management (BPM) software, today announced that it has signed a partnering agreement with Business Rule Solutions, LLC (BRS), a leading proponent in the advancement of the business rules approach. As authorities and practitioners of business rule theory and techniques, Ronald G. Ross and Gladys S.W. Lam, BRS co-founders and principals, will work with Pegasystems on joint marketing and system design initiatives to offer organizations a more effective approach to enterprise management by combining Pegasystems' rules-driven BPM with BRS's Business Rule Methodology.

"The idea of not using a rules engine to maintain and execute an organization's business rules will seem as strange in five years as not using a database management system (DBMS) to manage data," said BRS's Ronald G. Ross. "Pegasystems has almost 20 years of experience coupling rules technology with BPM to help organizations increase efficiencies. We believe that, working together, we can provide a powerful voice in the market on behalf of the value and benefits of rules-driven BPM."

BRS's Business Rule Methodology, Proteus, offers a roadmap to put the business back in the driver's seat of the requirements process. It offers ready-made structures and thinking tools to ask the proper questions at the correct time, and displays the forms (deliverables) that the answers should take, including, but not limited to, workflows. BRS's methodology focuses on developing a business model for the scope of the project with direct participation of the business process "owners" and/or knowledgeable operational-level managers and workers. In addressing each of the individual deliverables of the business model and subsequent system model, it shows organizations how to seek out the relevant elements of business logic - that is, business rules - and to record them.

"We are eager to educate organizations on the benefit of a rules-driven BPM solution integrated with BRS's Business Rule Methodology," said Paul McNulty, vice president of PegaRULES. "By working together, we can help organizations clearly identify their rules, and how to best leverage them to help increase the productivity, quality and agility of their business."

Business rules are the practices, processes and procedures that define how a company does business. Business rules are a critical competitive asset that enables organizations to change dynamically and rapidly in order to respond to changing marketplace activities, in turn helping to provide a strategic advantage. An example of a business rule might state, "Our company will accept a product return and refund the purchase price within seven days of the purchase." By coupling a business rules engine with BPM, Pegasystems can help organizations leverage and execute best practices across multiple channels of customer-facing communication, across the enterprise and over the Web, as opposed to exclusively within an application or database.
