Pegasystems Announces New Sales Organization; New Structure Designed to Maximize Growth Opportunities of Converging Technologies

CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Jan. 19, 2004 — Pegasystems Inc. (NASDAQ: PEGA), a leading provider of smart, rules-based business process management (BPM) software, today announced changes within its sales organization designed to maximize growth opportunities for the company's BPM platform and related financial services and healthcare BPM applications.

With the ongoing and rapid technological convergence of its vertical and horizontal BPM products, Pegasystems is consolidating its sales organization to more effectively sell its solutions. Pegasystems' John Barone will assume the position of vice president, North America Sales. Prior to Pegasystems, Barone served as president of Engage, Inc. and, prior to that, as vice president of sales for the Americas at Clarify, a division of Nortel Networks. Joseph Friscia, executive vice president, Applications, is leaving the company to pursue other opportunities.

Henry Ancona, president and COO, Pegasystems, commented, "As our application products converge with our smart BPM platform, PegaRULES Process Commander, we're taking the opportunity to sharpen our focus and become even more efficient. This new structure will help to improve functional excellence and focus on increasing market share, leveraging our expertise in BPM, exceptions management and customer service for the financial services, healthcare and other markets. We've made a number of key hires in the sales organization over the past year, and continue to build upon the world-class execution of our 'Simply Smart BPM' strategy."
