Advanced Thinking about Real-World BPM: Pegasystems VP Takes on "Semantic Gap" in 2005 Workflow Handbook

CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Jun 6, 2005 — The role of Business Process Management (BPM) in providing critical agility is examined by Dr. Setrag Khoshafian, Vice President, BPM Technology, Pegasystems (Nasdaq: PEGA) in his contribution to one of the industry's top forums for new ideas, the 2005 Workflow Handbook.

Khoshafian focuses on how the semantic gap between business-process modeling and execution impedes continuous improvement and robs companies of the agility they need to respond to sudden market shifts. Khoshafian's chapter is titled "Narrowing the Semantic Gap between Business Process Analysis and Business Process Execution."

"Our age is an 'on-demand' age. It is becoming clear that narrowing this gap from the world of modeling that usually belongs to the business owner's domain to the design and execution environment that pertains to IT is a requirement that can be satisfied primarily through a unified intelligent BPM platform," he writes.

Dr. Khoshafian has more than 10 years of hands-on experience designing and implementing enterprise BPM systems. He is the lead author of eight books on a wide variety of technologies, and has taught graduate and undergraduate technology courses at various universities. He holds masters and doctoral degrees in computer science from the University of Wisconsin.
