The SmartBPM® Suite includes robust document handling capabilities, including scanning, routing, attaching, and disposing documents as part of work objects. Documents are versioned and managed with work, and can be examined by a user with proper access. SmartBPM natively supports several types of attachments:
In addition to native document support, SmartBPM can interoperate with an enterprise content management (ECM) system, providing links to images or other documents from the ECM system as attachments to work items. SmartBPM stores reference links and retrieves documents in real time when a link is clicked by a user. If the ECM connection is configured to handle image annotation or metadata, SmartBPM retrieves this as well.
The SmartBPM Suite can integrate across multiple ECM systems, providing a uniform view of documents and images across systems. Document, image, or external workflow events can trigger case creation or status change, using an event handler (an option available from Pegasystems for popular ECM systems) to notify a SmartBPM application and initiate or change work when a document is added or updated in the ECM system. SmartBPM can also store case results, attachments, and correspondence, along with case metadata, into an external system.
