Senior System Architect (z/OS Expert)
PEGA AND FUNCTIONAL OVERVIEW: The Infrastructure, Performance and Operations team is one of the four legs of the Global Services Engineering Architecture (GSEA) that is responsible for expert services involving the infrastructure that Pega solutions reside within and the operations and performance of those solutions.
Job Purpose:
Responsible for providing high quality expert services which augment Pega customer’s applications in the areas of the PRPC based operating environment infrastructure, PRPC application performance and PRPC application operations, specializing in zSeries mainframe based expertise and Database expertise. Responsible for the architecture, and implementation of PRPC based solutions across client, partner or Pega led projects. Accountable for ensuring the business and technical architecture of the delivered solution matches customer technical and functional requirements. Personally responsible for implementation of PRPC components on z/OS operating system, particularly DB2 for z/OS database, as well as design and implementation of interfaces and integrations with z/OS hosted partner application systems. Act as SME and mentor for developing expertise in z/OS technologies across the professional services organization.
Key Result Areas:
- Provides thought-leadership to fellow team members and the client across business and technical project dimensions solving complex business requirements. This includes scope definition, requirements analysis, functional and technical design, application build, product configuration, unit testing, UAT and production deployment.
- Develops and demonstrates an advanced knowledge of the PRPC Architecture and all PRPC design and implementation features.
- Acts as deployment, installation and performance analysis lead for customers hosting PRPC components on a z/OS platform, in particularly using the DB2 for z/OS database. As circumstances dictate, either personally build and execute jobs to ensure successful installation, operation and superior performance, or advise customer DBA’s on how to achieve desired end state.
- Serve as subject matter expert for all z/OS technology integrations. As needed, personally implement integrations using PRPC connector facilities and standard IBM z/OS software tools.
- Acts as the mentor to all team members on their assigned project tasks.
- Provides technical expertise and ownership in the diagnosis and resolution of an issue, including the determination and provision of workaround solution or escalation to GCS and/or Product engineering.
- Participates in the development of additional consulting opportunities within the customer base.
- Able to be the sole representative from Pegasystems at client sites

- Act as Pegasystems representative and evangelist with customers’ z/OS development and operations staff.
- Develop training and reference materials to enhance the level of z/OS competence in Pega professional services. Develop and record webinars and other eLearning facilities.

Education and Experience Requirements:
- Typically requires BS Degree with 7 years of experience, or Masters Degree with 4 years of experience (Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering) or ten years of ‘self-starter’ experience.
- Extensive application design and architecture experience, ideally with cross-platform solutions.
- Expertise in analysis, design, development, and deployment of large-scale online application systems.
- Expertise in design and implementation of DB2 databases.
- Experience with tuning and debugging DB2-based applications.
- SQL experience, with use of QMF JDBC and DB2 connect.
- Expertise in Cobol-95 or Cobol-87 application programming
- Architectural understanding and practical experience with CICS, IMS, VSAM and MQ.
- Windows system administration skills.
- Unix or Linux system administration skills.
- IP networking tools and concepts.
- OO design skills, preferably with Java experience.
