Senior Software Engineer



Job Purpose:


Pegasystems, the industry leader in business process management and business rules, helps organizations reach new levels of growth and agility by digitizing their goals and policies into software that can intelligently guide, automate, and optimize work.



The Software Engineer will have primary responsibility for developing and maintaining components of the core Business Process Management and Business Rules Engine products. In a fast-paced, iterative development environment, the Software Engineer will work closely with product management to quickly assimilate project requirements; develop thoughtful designs and implement robust, high-quality features within aggressive timeframes. The successful candidate will bring energy and enthusiasm to an engineering team that takes pride in delivering high-quality software.



Key Result Areas:

  • Design and develop high quality software which is fit for the purpose described by the technical requirements.
  • Debug and maintain existing code base.
  • Document and follow development standards for all coding.
  • Create unit test code to ensure technical requirements are satisfied.
  • Other responsibilities and key result areas as required or assigned.

Functional Expertise:

  • Solid understanding and practical experience with the software development life cycle
  • Advanced Java programming with focus on server development (2+ years)
  • Facile with application servers, operating systems and development tools such as eclipse, ant, etc.
  • Web Application Development (2+ years)
  • Strong OO Design and Development skills
  • XML (1+ years)
  • Relational DB and related tools (2+ years)
  • Maintains effectiveness in varying environments and with different tasks, responsibilities, and people.
  • Uses tact and is sensitive to treating others with respect.
  • Actively listens, hears and understands what is said as well as not said, and comprehends the meaning and intent.
  • Deals effectively with pressure (real or perceived) and capably performs and meets requirements while managing in stressful situations.
  • Works effectively with teams or work groups outside his/her formal line of authority to accomplish technical, functional, or organizational goals.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • BS in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Bachelor's Degree and 5+ years of experience in a technical role.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully interact in technical discussions.
  • Academic success in a technical field.

Less than 10% travel expected for client-related issues.
